David Blumenstein

President and CEO

Mr. Blumenstein is President and CEO of The Segal Group. He previously served as the National Director of Multiemployer Consulting and as consultant to numerous multiemployer funds, including health and welfare plans, defined benefit pension plans and defined contribution pension plans. His current clients include a range of multiemployer plans and international union plans.

Mr. Blumenstein is a member of Segal’s Senior Management Team and Multiemployer Leadership Group and also serves on The Segal Group’s Board of Directors. He also oversees Segal Communications and Segal Select Insurance.

Mr. Blumenstein worked in all areas of employee benefits for a major insurance company before he joined the firm. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan with a BA in Philosophy.

Tami Simon

SVP, Global Corporate Consulting Business Leader

Tamara ("Tami") M. Simon, JD, is a Senior Vice President and Global Corporate Consulting Business Leader in the Washington, DC office. She is a nationally recognized business leader in HR and employee benefits. In her role, Ms. Simon leads Sibson’s cross-practice corporate consulting business, which brings insightful and innovative HR and employee benefit solutions to employers of all sizes including corporations, nonprofits, associations, institutions of higher education, among others.  

Ms. Simon has more than 20 years of experience in the employee benefits and HR consulting industry. Prior to joining Sibson in 2018 she was a global practice leader and member of the senior executive team at another consulting firm. While there, she successfully led two practices, transforming them into industry-leading and profitable lines of business. Ms. Simon has also worked for Mercer, the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery, Hewitt Associates and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

Recently named one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Employee Benefit Consulting by Employee Benefit Adviser, Ms. Simon is on the Boards of Directors for the American Benefits Council, Employee Benefit Research Institute, Emeriti Retirement Health Solutions and the Health Enhancement Research Organization. She is also on the Advisory Council of the ERISA Industry Committee, a former editor of the BNA Tax Management’s Compensation Planning Journal and a member of the American Bar Association. Ms. Simon was inducted as a Fellow to the elite American College of the Employee Benefits Counsel in 2018.

Ms. Simon earned a JD, with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was an associate editor of the Law Review. She is also a graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign, with a BA in Political Science. She is a member of the Illinois Bar.

Jonathan Price

VP, Corporate Retirement Practice Leader

Mr. Price is a Vice President and Corporate Retirement Practice Leader, based in Sibson’s New York office. He has been with the firm since 2004. Mr. Price has specialized expertise on a wide range of employee benefit services, including plan design, actuarial analysis development and funding strategies in alignment with corporate objectives, and the determination of accounting implications associated with ongoing plan operations. He also works with corporations on benefit and de-risking strategies and plan management. Mr. Price has extensive experience consulting on corporate pension valuations under ERISA and PPA as well as FAS and IAS pension accounting. He also has experience with post-retirement health and welfare benefit plans. He has worked on a number of special projects including plan redesign, curtailments, terminations, and M&A. He consults to both large and small pension plan sponsors, including corporate and non-profit clients.

In addition, Mr. Price co-directs the Strategic Defined Contribution Analytics (SDCA) practice, which analyzes employee-level data to uncover human resources issues for clients as well as identify DC plan successes and challenges.

Mr. Price graduated cum laude with a BA in Mathematics from Yeshiva University (New York, NY). He is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary and serves on multiple internal actuarial, technical and consulting committees.

Christopher Calvert

SVP, Corporate Health Practice Leader

Mr. Calvert is a Senior Vice President in Sibson’s New York office and is the firm’s Health Practice Leader. Mr. Calvert advises corporate and public sector clients in plan design for active employees and retirees (medical, dental, life and disability), and he performs competitive bidding, union negotiations, flex pricing, claims analysis and underwriting. He is the Co-Chair of Sibson’s Consumerism Committee and Rx Consulting Team.

Prior to joining Sibson, Mr. Calvert worked in various capacities throughout the healthcare industry, including serving as a financial consultant for a pharmaceutical benefits manager, managing network contracting for a large insurance company, developing disease management programs for a major insurer, and managing financial operations at a large academic medical center.

Mr. Calvert graduated from Cornell University with a BS in Economics and received an MBA in Healthcare Administration from Baruch College/Mount Sinai Medical Center. He is licensed as a Life Accident and Health Insurance agent and broker.

Jason Adwin

SVP, Senior Consultant Human Capital

Mr. Adwin is a Senior Vice President and Consultant in Sibson’s New York office.  He is the firm's Performance and Rewards Practice Leader and has a special expertise in compensation and performance management. Mr. Adwin is an advisor to management teams and compensation committees of public and private companies, and not-for-profit organizations. He assists a diverse cross-section of clients spanning industries including; professional services, hospitality, manufacturing, sports and entertainment, financial services, not-for-profit entities, technology, and higher education. He provides competitive market analysis and design, and implementation of solutions that support organizations’ business strategies and fit within their unique cultures. Kathryn Bakich

SVP, National Health Care Compliance Practice Leader

Kathryn Bakich is a Senior Vice President in Sibson’s Washington, DC office with extensive experience in health care compliance. She is the firm’s National Health Compliance Practice Leader. Ms. Bakich is one of the country’s leading experts on employer sponsored health coverage. She specializes in providing research and analysis on federal laws and regulations affecting health coverage, including: ERISA, Medicare, HIPAA, COBRA, the Newborns’ and Mothers’ Health Protection Act, the Mental Health Parity Act and the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act.

Ms. Bakich is a recognized expert on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed in 2010. She speaks regularly about the law, helps plan sponsors understand its short- and long-term effects on their plans and assists clients with preparing comments on the legislation for submission to regulatory Departments (Treasury, Labor, and Health & Human Services).

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Bakich was an attorney in private practice representing multiemployer health plans, and an appellate administrative law judge. She graduated in 1979 with a BA in Political Science, in 1982 with an MA in Public Policy and in 1985 with a JD from the University of Missouri. She has been admitted to the Bar in the District of Columbia, United States Supreme Court and multiple federal district and appellate courts.

Randolph Carter

SVP, National Communications Practice Leader

Mr. Carter is a Senior Vice President and the firm's National Communications Practice Leader. He has extensive experience in employee communications and he works with clients to develop employee benefit and human resources communications strategies, approaches and materials. 

He has specialized expertise in developing wellness and disease management promotion campaigns, benefit satisfaction surveys, manager/supervisor compensation training and annual enrollment communications campaigns.

Mr. Carter joined the firm when it acquired Marjorie Gross & Company. Before joining Marjorie Gross, he was with Buck Consultants and Johnson & Higgins. Mr. Carter is a graduate of Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

John Flynn

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Flynn is a Senior Vice President and the firm's Chief Operating Officer and is located in Segal's Hartford Office. He is also on the firm's Board of Directors. Mr. Flynn provides consulting services in the health, flexible benefits and retirement areas. He serves as Consultant to a number of public sector entities and collectively bargained health, pension and annuity funds.

Mr. Flynn received an MA in Economics from Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and received both a BS in Insurance and Finance and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Hartford. He attended the Harvard Business School’s Executive Education Program and is a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist. Mr. Flynn is also licensed as a Certified Life/Health Insurance Consultant and Broker.

Mr. Flynn is Past President of the Southern New England Chapter of CEBS. He is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the New England Employee Benefits Council, the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists, the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities and the Government Finance Officers Association. In 2010, Mr. Flynn was elected to the Board of Visitors of the University of Hartford's Barney School of Business.

Daniel Fries

SVP, New York Regional Leader

Mr. Fries is a Senior Vice President in Sibson’s New York office. He has held such leadership positions as Vice President, Senior Vice President, Co-Head of the New York office, Chief Operating Officer, Member of the Board and Member of the Board's Compensation and Audit Committees.

Mr. Fries has special expertise in qualified and non-qualified plan design, deferred compensation funding strategies, defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans, and group health and welfare benefits.

Before joining Sibson, Mr. Fries worked as a senior benefits consultant for a major insurance company and a large global money management organization where he provided technical consulting services for pension, defined contribution and deferred compensation arrangements. Prior to this, he worked as a registered investment advisor for a private investment firm specializing in fixed-income investments for pension plans.

Mr. Fries received a BS in both Human Resource Management and Economics from the State University of New York at Fredonia. He participated in several executive management programs at Harvard and attended Harvard’s exclusive program for leaders in professional consultancies. Mr. Fries has lectured on benefits compliance issues, non-qualified plan design, deferred compensation and funding options for several leading benefits and human resource management forums. He has been quoted in several business publications and has taught classes for the American Medical Association and other organizations as part of their credential programs.

John Gingell

Chief Practice Officer

John Gingell is a Senior Vice President and the firm's Chief Practice Officer and is located in the Chicago office.

Mr. Gingell provides health care and pension consulting advice to clients and specializes in developing strategic, customized solutions to help manage rising health care costs. His expertise includes claims data mining, aggressively managing vendor contracts, plan design, and incentivized wellness and disease management alternatives. Mr. Gingell also works to minimize employee dissatisfaction through carefully crafted communications. He helps clients address the short-term pension funding issues they are facing due to investment market activity while also maintaining focus on the appropriate long-term strategy for retirement income fund design.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gingell specialized in employee benefits with a major insurance carrier. Mr. Gingell received a BS in Business Administration at The Citadel. He has taken numerous management, health care and strategy courses at a variety of institutions and attended the Harvard Business School’s Executive Education Program. Mr. Gingell is active in The Executives' Club of Chicago and other HR groups, and he is a past chair of a Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Board. He is President of the Foundation Board at Northeastern Illinois University and Chairman of its Finance Committee. Mr. Gingell is also the Chairman of the Board of the Arts and Business Council in Chicago. Mr. Gingell holds board and committee positions in various human resources, benefits and charity associations in the Midwest. He is a frequent speaker at benefit conferences and other events on health care issues.

Kelly Jones

SVP, Higher Education Practice Leader

Mr. Jones is a Senior Vice President in Sibson’s Cleveland office with many years of experience in employee benefits, managed health care and pharmacy benefits management. He is the firm’s Higher Education Practice Leader and a lead member of Sibson’s Total Rewards Strategy Team.

Mr. Jones helps human resources leaders in higher education transform their departments into strategic partners on campus. He advises clients on issues and topics involving plan design, funding, administration, healthcare, disease management, alternative plan design and employee communications. He also helps clients conduct financial analyses and establish long-term contribution and rate-setting methodologies.

Mr. Jones graduated with a BA in English and Political Science from Miami University in Oxford, OH. He serves as Sibson’s National Liaison for the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR), the National Association of College & University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the Association of Governing Boards (AGB). Mr. Jones is also a Past Chair of the CUPA-HR Corporate Advisory Council and remains a founding member of its board.

Scott Nostaja

SVP, National Organizational Effectiveness Practice Leader

Mr. Nostaja is a Senior Vice President in Sibson’s New York office with extensive experience in organizational effectiveness and in creating high-performing organizations. Mr. Nostaja is the firm's National Organizational Effectiveness Practice Leader and provides a wide range of services to clients including strategic planning and initiatives involving organizational, operational and cultural transformation.

Before joining Sibson, Mr. Nostaja was the founder, president and CEO of Excelcor, a leading professional services firm specializing in strategic planning, organizational improvement and the creation of high-performing work cultures. He led all aspects of the firm including its business development, client relations and project management functions. The Segal Group acquired Excelcor in 2014.

Mr. Nostaja received a BS from California State University, Northridge. He has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the State of California Workers' Compensation Task Force, the State of California Tourism and Marketing Commission, and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. Mr. Nostaja has also served on the boards of several philanthropic organizations, including the United Way, the American Red Cross and the Los Angeles Family Housing Corporation.
