Dear Reader,
Collaborative efforts generate ideas and solutions that individuals on their own cannot. As James Surowiecki notes in his bestselling book, The Wisdom of Crowds, "under the right circumstances, groups are remarkably intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people in them." This is the common lesson from the four feature articles in this issue of Perspectives.
While the large number of people who have contributed to many companies’ wellness programs have helped them succeed, it is time for HR to step in and organize those programs to eliminate duplication and focus their efforts where they will do the most good. Compensation architecture enables an organization to support its business model while achieving consistency and alignment with its internal and external groups. Talent calibration stresses how group rather than individual decisions regarding people and other issues can improve morale and performance. Deal review meetings allow individual sales professionals to tap into the experience and knowledge of the entire team.
The four feature articles in this issue of Perspectives are:
- "Is Your Wellness Program a Scattershot Effort...or on Target to Serve Employees and the Organization?" reveals how to sort out and make the most of today’s wide-ranging wellness initiatives to improve the health of the workforce.
- "Determining the Optimal Compensation Architecture" looks at the hierarchy of work value and pay opportunity that enables organizations to deliver compensation that is supportive of its business strategies as well as its HR policies.
- "Harnessing the Power of the Group: The Case for Talent Calibration" explains how having groups of managers share and adjust their decisions before they are formalized can improve performance assessment and other important functions.
- "The Deal Review Meeting: A Sales Brainstorming Session to Keep Your Initiatives on Track" discusses how to improve the chances of closing a sale by bringing the entire sales team together to scrutinize and analyze every step of the effort.
We hope you enjoy this issue of Perspectives and will share it with your colleagues. Please feel free to contact us with your comments, questions and insights.
