Summer 2006 Survey Report, "Segal/Sibson's 2006 Survey of Consumer-Driven Health Plans"
Abstract
Key findings of Segal/Sibson's 2006 Survey of Consumer-Driven Health Plans include the following:
- The top three reasons for offering CDHPs are (1) to encourage employees to choose more cost-effective medical care, (2) to raise employees' health-consciousness, and (3) to reduce health plan costs.
- The vast majority of the 81 large employers in the survey offer their CDHPs as an option.
- Most employers do not know whether there are different demographic characteristics or utilization patterns of employees who enroll in CDHPs and those who enroll in other health plans.
- Effective communication contributes to a CHDP's success.
- A majority of respondents indicated that it is too early to tell whether their CDHPs were successful.
- Lack of cost pressure, lack of proof that CDHPs "work," and the perception that CDHPs are too complicated are the main reasons larger employers cited for not offering a CDHP.
