November 2009

A recent Sibson Consulting survey of U.S.-based multinational companies found that nearly two-thirds of the companies surveyed are maintaining or increasing the size of their expatriate workforce while one-third are decreasing this segment of their workforce.

Sibson Consulting is seeking to evaluate the maturity of employer health and productivity programs and measure the impact of various strategies and practices by surveying health care and hospital employers' best practices in absence, health, wellness and productivity initiatives. Data gathered from this new, on-line survey will allow Sibson to establish a set of benchmarks for peer organizations both within the hospital and healthcare sector and beyond.

Westerheide, Segal Asset Liability Modeling (ALM) Practice Leader, and John DeMairo, COO of Segal Advisors Inc., titled "Liability-Driven Investing: Adding Investment Return, Lowering Risk" appears in the January/February 2008 issue of Financial Executive. This article addresses the rise of liability-driven investing among pension plan sponsors.

This article specifically covers issues of interest to sponsors of corporate defined benefit plans. The authors want to make it clear that they do not believe that using a bond rate to value liabilities is necessarily correct, but, where ERISA or FASB impose interest rate volatility in the valuation of liabilities, LDI can be an effective way to mitigate non-compensated interest rate risk.
