We believe that professional development is enhanced by a partnership between the employee and the company. In this partnership, employees are expected to commit to relevant development goals and invest the interest, time and effort to achieve those goals, and the company commits to setting clear expectations and providing the guidance and resources to support development efforts.
Sibson considers the attainment of professional credentials to be an important element of a successful actuarial career. To encourage the passing of actuarial exams, the company provides study support and financial rewards as employees progress through the exam process.
Research and study leaves, common in educational institutions, are unusual among businesses. We offer this program because we believe that it will help us develop new insights, greater knowledge and better skills. Employees are eligible for an eight-week research and study leave after they have completed fifteen years of service with Sibson and again after twenty-five years. They can use this time to learn more about our field and profession or to develop new business ideas. This could include projects such as organized study or conducting a study of benefits programs in another country.
Sibson offers a range of in-house and external learning and development courses, with topics ranging from building client relationships to pharmacy benefit strategies.
To encourage staff members to continue their professional education and acquire new skills, the company offers a program of tuition assistance. Sibson will reimburse a portion (generally 50 or 100%) of tuition costs for approved professional classes and approved college and graduate courses.
At Sibson, performance management means far more than filling out an annual performance evaluation. We view performance management as a year-round coaching process founded on open communication between the manager and the employee, commitment to the company's business goals, vision and values, and the development of the Sibson Success Factors — skills, attributes and behaviors that we believe characterize outstanding performers.
Sibson offers a formal mentoring program that pairs new employees with experienced professionals in the company.
Through its Management Development Process, Sibson helps managers at every level of the company enhance their skills in areas that have the greatest impact on performance, retention, and ultimately, quality and profitability.
Sibson's career framework provides a clear route to professional advancement within the company. Because of our smaller size and collaborative atmosphere, our employees are able to work on a wide range of projects and customize their careers within this framework according to their interests.
